Singaporean killed by falling tree
Another Singaporean has been killed by a falling tree on Mount Ophir in Johor, not far from the spot where a trainee teacher died last Tuesday. .
Mr Abdul Razak Abdul Hamid, 48, a security officer at the Changi Airport, was crushed on Saturday at about 10pm when a tree fell on him near Check Point Four following a storm. .
Mr Abdul Razak was with 11 other Singaporeans on the trip, according to The Star. He leaves behind a wife and three children
On May 15, Mr Mohammad Rohaizam Tumadi, 27, died after a tree fell on his tent. That same morning, clinic assistant Madam Ho Siew Lan, 43, was killed by an uprooted tree at the Bukit Batok Nature Park. The accident was attributed to strong winds and rain that had caused the soil to soften. .
Yesterday, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, said the National Parks Board and the National Environment Agency would regularly monitor the condition of the trees. .
He added: "We make sure that when there is heavy downpour there is no
clogging of drains and the water is free to flow." .
"(At) my house the other day, they cut down a big old tree, which upset my wife very much. (Then) we realised that the tree was dying, it was sick, so may as well cut it down before it becomes a hazard to people."
